ACDS Honor Code

Alexandria Country Day School holds students to the highest standard of behavior requiring students to honor a code of conduct based on respect, honor, and responsibility.  Students, teachers, administrators, staff, and parents are jointly responsible for ensuring that the day-to-day experiences at ACDS take place in a positive learning climate that is achievement oriented.   At all times, students should be aware that their behavior and appearance affect this learning environment.

Discipline is defined as the combination of mental attitude and a system of self-control that results in a standard of behavior demonstrated by appropriate conduct in all situations.  In education, it is a process which strengthens, molds, and corrects students through a system of essential rules, a program of teaching and supervisory control, and when necessary, just and constructive consequences.

The school has the responsibility to provide situations for students to practice controlling their behavior, to correct their own mistakes in behavior, and to see examples of responsible behavior by staff and other students.  Our aim is to develop a responsible student capable of making wise choices based on positive and negative consequences of one’s behavior.  Students are educated on and encouraged to exhibit positive character traits as seen through our school-wide expectations- Tiger Traits.

ACDS Tiger Traits

Show acceptance and respect
Always do what’s right
Have a giving spirit
Understand feelings of others
Be in charge of your actions

Each child at ACDS shall comply with the school-wide expectations and the individual teacher’s classroom rules.  At the beginning of each academic year, each teacher communicates the school-wide expectations, his/her own classroom procedures, consequences, and rewards with his/her class and with parents.
