Susie Lair, Ph.D.
ACDS Interim Head of School

Alexandria Country Day School (ACDS) welcomes Susan Lair, Ph. D., ACDS Interim Head of School for the 2018-2019 school year.

Dr. Lair has 45 years of experience in education with the last 26 in independent schools in Texas.  Earlier this year, she retired after 17 years as Head of School at St. Francis Episcopal Day School in Houston.
“Susie will bring a wealth of independent school experience which will allow ACDS to continue to develop the leaders of tomorrow for our community,” said Susan Broussard, ACDS Board of Trustees president.  “She will help us continue on our path of academic excellence and evaluate opportunities to improve all aspects of our school.”
Dr. Lair has a B.S. in Education from the University of North Texas; a M.S. in Education Administration and Math Education from Texas Christian University; and a Ph.D. in Education Administration and Finance from the University of Texas.
Prior to her position at St. Francis Episcopal, she served as the Head of Upper School of St. Mary’s Hall in San Antonio and in various roles at Fort Worth Country Day School.  She began her career as a mathematics teacher in the Bryan and Fort Worth Independent School Districts.  Currently Dr. Lair is on the Board of Directors of the Independent School Associations of the Southwest (ISAS) and teaches a new heads workshop for Independent School Management, Inc.
“Alexandria Country Day is a fantastic school with an excellent faculty,” Dr. Lair said.  “I am eager to be part of this team and community.”
Established in 1969, ACDS is accredited by ISAS and serves students from 3 years old in its pre-kindergarten program to eighth grade.

August 16, 2018: ACDS Position Statement

August 2018:

With the help of search consultant, Linda Gibbs with LMG Search Consulting, LLC and a member of RG175, LLC, the HOS Search Committee will begin searching for a new Head of School this fall.  The HOS Search Committee is chaired by Natalie Monroe and includes Susan Broussard, Bill Wallace, Jenifer Gilchrist, who are all current board members; Doug Godard and Jonathan Peyton, who are former board members; and Tiffany Kinnison, who is the faculty representative.
The search committee and Ms. Gibbs updated the position statement that will be blasted to over 1600 independent school organizations across the country early next week.  The position statement will also be available through the ACDS website.  Interested candidates both locally and nationally should apply to Ms. Gibbs.  Ms. Gibbs will interview all candidates before working with the search committee to select 6 to 8 semi-finalists.  Semi-finalists will not be revealed but will be interviewed by the search committee.  After the semi-final interviews, the search committee will name three finalists who will each spend two to three days at ACDS.  All faculty, staff and parents will have an opportunity to meet the finalists and submit their input to Ms. Gibbs and the search committee before the search committee recommends the new HOS to the Board of Trustees.  The search committee anticipates that a new HOS will be named by early 2019.
